SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL SCIENCES – FCAT

WORLD CONTEXT AND REGIONAL REALITY

The economy of the region of Dracena is strongly based on the farming and cattle raising and a large part of the producers are small entrepreneurs. The presence of the School of Agricultural and Technological Sciences in this scenario has stimulated the implementation of new technologies in several areas connected to the agribusiness. In pursuit of improved training, which guarantee the knowledge of different production systems to them in regional and international markets, the students of Unesp have taken part of internships in agricultural companies of the region, work in extension projects with the community, and develop scientific initiation projects, always with the purpose of integrating the university-level knowledge to the agricultural activities. The courses of Zootechnics and Agricultural Engineering, as well as the master’s course in Animal Science and Technology, provide all the conditions for the graduated professionals to actively take part of the national socioeconomic development. This means a large contribution for the companies to start to produce foods of animal and plant origin with increasingly more quality and at competitive prices. The graduate course in Zootechnics is intended at the graduation of professionals with a solid scientific knowledge base, qualified to work with the means of production, and also in the research, in the teaching, and extension, by adding values and optimizing the use of the potentially available resources, with adaptable technologies in the social, environmental, and economic viewpoint, aiming at increasing the animal productivity. In 2012, The Graduate Program in Animal Science and Technology was implemented, on the academic master’s level, a result of a partnership between the experimental campus of Dracena and the School of Engineering of Ilha Solteira. Currently, the program counts with two research lines: Technology in the production of non-ruminants; and Technology in the production of ruminants. This is the first interunit master’s program of Unesp.
