FIRST-CLASS STUDIES

The current School of Sciences and Languages, in the Assis campus, works in a complex of building constructed in the woods, with classrooms, laboratories, inter-department and administrative centers.

TEACHING

The FCLAs offers fi ve undergraduation courses (Biological Sciences, Biotechnology Engineering, History, Languages, and Psychology) and graduate programs in the areas of Biosciences (master’s degree), History (master’s degree and doctorate), Languages (master’s degree and doctorate), and Psychology (master’s degree and doctorate). The course of Languages offers the modality of licentiate degree with a major in Portuguese and in one foreign language (English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese, or Latin). The course of History seeks to provide full training in the area, enabling the student for the exercise of the teaching profession and of the research. The curriculum of Psychology includes the qualifi cation of the future psychologists to meet the several social demands and also qualifi es teachers for the high school. The course of Biological Sciences aims at the graduation of professionals for the teaching of Biology and for the development of researches in the several branches that compose it. As for the Biotechnology one, it has a multidisciplinary nature.

EXTENSION

At FCLAs, several university extension courses are provided, as well as cultural diffusion and update, aimed at people of the community of Assis and of the region. Cultural activities, congresses, and scientifi c meetings are also held. The work of pedagogical and psycho-pedagogical assistance and advisory provided to the basic education schools of the public education system deserves to be highlighted.

AUXILIARY UNITS

There are two auxiliary units at the FCLAs: the Research and Applied Psychology Center “Dr. Betti Katzenstein” (CPPA) and the Research Support and Documentation Center “Prof. Dr. Anna Maria Martinez Corrêa” (Cedap). The CPPA has as its general objective to develop activities connected to the fi eld of psychology and counts with a structure for the training of psychological tests and techniques. It has been consolidated as an important reference institution in the service to the population and in its extension actions. Cedap supports the research activities developed in the Assis campus by means of the maintenance of a collection of historical documents and specialized fi les. Its purpose is the creation and maintenance of conditions of support to the research activities developed at the unit.
